What is stored in image metadata?

Typically the camera make and model, lens, shutter speed, aperture and ISO, the date and time, the software used to edit it, and on phone photos the GPS latitude and longitude. Professional files may also carry the photographer’s name, copyright and client notes.

Are my files uploaded to a server?

No. The file is decoded and re-encoded directly in your browser using JavaScript and WebAssembly, and never leaves your device. That is what makes it safe for private photos, client work and anything confidential, and it is why the tool keeps working with your network disconnected once the page has loaded.

Can someone find my home address from a photo I posted?

If the photo still carries GPS metadata, yes — the coordinates are usually accurate to a few metres. Most large social networks strip metadata on upload, but files sent by email, messaging apps in "document" mode, or uploaded to a forum or your own site often keep it intact.

Why does my photo show no metadata at all?

It was probably stripped — social networks, screenshot tools and many chat apps remove it automatically. Re-saving an image in an editor or converting it to another format also drops most fields.
